Hotbed rehearsals begin!

June 11th, 2009

stand-by-your-vanRight now, as I sit in the relative calm of the Menagerie office, the Hotbed actors are downstairs in rehearsals.  They each have one hand placed on the truck parked in their rehearsal room.  And in the other hand, they’re holding scripts for Anna Reynolds’ new play Stand By Your Van! The latest draft is hot-off-the-press.  We finished a read-through this morning and it’s looking fantastic: funny, poignant and gripping!

Tomorrow we’ll be moving onto some of the other plays in the festival, splitting the actors between rehearsals for Richard Fredman’s play Four For Jericho and Clare Bayley’s piece At Sea.

We’ve also just opened submission for the One-Page-Play-Competition-athonClick here to find out how you could see your writing up on stage at Hotbed Festival.

Hotbed 2009 Programme announced!

May 20th, 2009

Hotbed 09 blackAfter countless scripts, a mountain of treatments and some heated discussions at the Menagerie office, the programme for Hotbed 2009 has finally been finalised!

We were overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of the work submitted for Hotbed 2009.  Deciding which writers made it into the festival was extremely tough.  We each had allegiances to particular scripts or ideas which had grabbed us and refused to let us go.  But in the end, we were able to agree on a programme which we think might just be our strongest yet!

You can find out all about Hotbed 2009 by click through the menu on the right.  But suffice to say, it features some very big names, as well as the most exciting up-and-coming talent.  We welcome some Hotbed favourites back to the fold, along with new faces who we feel sure will set The Junction alight.  And we’re extremely excited to be welcoming a raft of our favourite guest companies and performers to make their contribution to Hotbed too.

We hope you can join us at The Junction for Hotbed 2009.  Put it in your diary!  The dates are 25 June – 4 July.  See you there…
