What I Learned From Johnny Bevan

Written and performed by Luke Wright

Critically acclaimed, nationally renowned performance poet Luke Wright, makes his thrilling theatre debut with:  What I Leaned from Johnny Bevan –  a powerful story of friendship and class.

Nick has fallen out of love with London and his life as a journalist. Forced to review the launch of URBANIA, a new inner-city festival, he starts to remember his shattered friendship with Johnny Bevan, the whip-smart, mercurial kid from an Essex council estate. Back at uni , Johnny saved Nick from living his father’s life. Twenty years later, can he save him all over again?

Written and performed in visceral, punchy verse by Luke Wright, with a score by Ian Catskilken from Art Brut, What I Learned From Johnny Bevan is a breath-taking poetic monologue unlike anything you’ve seen before.

***** “Visceral, poignant and riotously funny.” The Scotsman

***** “Some of the funniest and most incisive writing you’ll see on the Fringe, regardless of category.” Exeunt

Stay-at-Home Dandy

Written and performed by Luke Wright

Hotbed (and Radio Four!) favourite, Luke Wright returns in his best ever stand-up poetry set.

‘Starched cravat and vampish slap / Stay-at-Home Dandy – what a chap!’

Decadent boozehound, Luke Wright, would love to spend his life flouncing around looking fabulous, but back in suburbia he’s got two kids to drag-up. Enough naval-gazing then, other people can be magic.  There’s comedy on the school run; tragedy in the offy; hearts breaking behind tasteful curtains.

In Stay-at-Home Dandy, Wright presents captivating stories of ordinary people having extraordinary moments.  Poems that get you in the gut.

His lexical acrobatics are astounding, often motor-mouthed and breathtakingly honest…Go for the wordsmithery, stay for the painful poignancy.’ The List

‘***** Wright perfectly captures the glamourless pulse of mainstream Britain and transforms it into rhythmic, transcendental beauty, quite simply, this is the future of popular poetry.’  The Skinny

Professional Supervision

Written by: Thomas Martin

Presented in Association with Motor Theatre

When I turned thirteen I became a completely different person…

Not in the way you might think

A time-travelling, coming-of-age, spoken word, murder mystery starring Johnny Knoxville from Jackass. With songs.  Bursting with bizarre characters and accompanied by the gnarliest of guitar, Professional Supervision is an offbeat hour of surreal indie storytelling, a pulpy poem to teenage truths and misspent youth.

Thomas is a London-based theatre-maker working across multiple disciplines: writing, collaborative performance, directing and live art.

Nominated for Pick of the Year and Best Debut, VAULT Festival 2015
