Guesthouse

Written by: Nicola Werenowska

Directed by Tony Casement

Produced in association with Eastern Angles Theatre

What’s it like when the town you were proud to grow up in becomes impoverished? What does it take to keep going?  From rising local star, Nicola Werenowska, Guesthouse explores, through the lives of three generations of women, how the changing nature of a place impacts dramatically on communities and individuals.

Offside

Co-written by Sabrina Mahfouz and Hollie McNish

Produced in Association with Futures Theatre

As The Women’s World Cup hits the headlines, this is perfect timing for this script in hand production.  Inspired by women’s football and the history of their game, Offside interweaves lyrical dialogue with chanting and punchy prose to place the audience on the touchline of a piece that tackles the position of women in sport, on and off the pitch.

Sabrina is a British Egyptian playwright, poet and screenwriter.

Hollie is a Cambridge based poet and spoken word artist.

Futures Theatre’s mission is to create new productions inspired by authentic stories of young people and women facing inequalities driven by gender prejudice, poverty, class and ethnicity.

TRAILER/trash

Written by Mike Elliston

Playing against type and exploring the American Dream, TRAILER/trash is a dark comedy that embraces the young and feisty Frankie, a waitress in a backwater diner who hates her job, her body and longs to be a man, and an ‘ageing’ Afro-American stripper, Shyanne, who dreams of becoming a star in Las Vegas.

Their lives are lived out in a theatrical version of a movie set, somewhere deeply south in the USA. Despite fragments of seemingly empty lives, Frankie and Shyanne remain rich and colourful in their dreams as they hope for better things to come.

Mike Elliston is a prolific stage and TV writer (ITV, BBC, Paramount Pictures).  He began his playwriting career back in 1982 and his third play Bread ’n Butter Guns won both a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival and the Yorkshire TV Award at the NSDF.  Since then he has written on diverse subjects such as Myra Hindley, Goya, John Donne and has had adaptations of A Tale of Two Cities, Far From The Madding Crowd and Ibsen’s When We dead Awaken (“DEAD”) performed to great praise.
