The Birth of Panda Man

Led by Fraser Grace and Paul Bourne

Join RSC commissioned writer (Breakfast with Mugabe) and teacher of Playwriting at University of Birmingham Fraser Grace, alongside Hotbed Director Paul Bourne in the birth of a new idea.

Based on a story plucked from The Guardian, join us in the birthing of this new play. Working with actors, we explore new ideas, new approaches and new possibilities for a play that will be fully commissioned later in 2015. This workshop is for anyone interested in the new writing process: actors, writers, directors, audience members and people who like pandas.

Fraser is a prolific playwright and his plays include Perpetua, winner of the Verity Bargate Award, and Breakfast with Mugabe for the Royal Shakespeare Company, which won the John Whiting Award and a Silver Sony Award when broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and the World Service. In 2013 the New York production of the play enjoyed a six month run off-Broadway, to further acclaim.

Paul is the Artistic Director of Menagerie Theatre Company.  He has directed and produced over seventy professional productions in various different countries. His work has ranged from productions on the fringe through to major international touring. Highlights include Guignol (Tennessee Williams) in New York and The UK, The world touring production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged (out of Washington DC), and the European premieres Oleanna and The Secret Garden.

Sunday 12th  July, 10am – 12pm

Cost: £10

Age Guidance: 14+
