Menagerie mentoring new playwright.

Menagerie are currently mentoring playwright Andrew Burton, working on Andrew’s play Waterlog.  The play is an adaptation of the book of the same name by the late Roger Deakin, and the subtitle, “A Swimmer’s Journey Through Britain”, gives you a strong idea of the subject matter!  It follows Deakin’s extraordinary journey through rivers, lakes and other outdoor waterways from the Scilly Isles to a whirlpool off the coast of Scotland.

Patrick is working with Andrew on the development of the script and met recently in a freezing Ipswich church hall with actor Richard Earl to sound out the first draft.  It’s always an exhilarating, if terrifying, experience for a writer to hear their script for the first time and it was enormously helpful for Andrew.  He is now working on a new draft and we will be presenting a rehearsed reading of the piece at The Pulse Festival, Ipswich.  Watch this space for exact date, time and location.
